Setting a recurring reminder

Adding a reminder

To set a recurring reminder, start by clicking on the New button in the top right corner of the window. You can also choose File > New Item from the menu, or use the keyboard shortcut by pressing Command (⌘)-N.

Enter the task you'd like to be reminded about

As an example, we'll try to add a reminder to pay our rent every 2 weeks on Friday at 8 AM. We enter 'Pay rent' as our task.

Set the due date to the date of first recurrence

Click on the due date field (labelled 1), or press Tab from the title field, and enter your desired due date.

Since we need to start paying our rent next Friday, we're going to make use of the natural date input in Due and enter 'Next fri' as our due date.

Set the due time to the time you'd like to be reminded at for every recurrence

Click on the due time field (labelled 1). Notice how the free-form due date that we've entered earlier has been parsed and correctly set to the date for next Friday (labelled 2) as we switched from the due date to the due time field.

Again, make use of the natural date and time input and key in '8am'.

Make the reminder recur once every 2 weeks

Click on the drop-down button (labelled 1) to reveal recurrence options.

Choose how often you want the reminder to recur by clicking on the appropriate Frequency button (Off, Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Yearly). You can also toggle between the different recurring options from 'Off' to 'Yearly' by pressing Command (⌘)-1 to 5.

For weekly reminders, you can select more than one day of the week to repeat on by selecting on the respective symbols (M, T, W, T, F, S, S). This way, you can select Monday to Friday to create a weekday-only reminder.

For our example, choose 'Weekly' (labelled 2), and enter Every '2' weeks (labelled 3).

Press Return once to confirm, another time to save

Press Return once and the recurrence rule will be updated to reflect 'Every 2 weeks on Fri 8:00 AM'. Press Return once more to save the reminder.

You've successfully set up a recurring reminder.

Unlike one-time reminders that show their full due date and time beneath their titles (eg. 'May 5, 2012 12:00 PM' for the reminder 'Deposit cheque', labelled 1), recurring reminders show their recurrence rule beneath their titles (eg. 'Every 2 weeks on Fri 8:00 AM') in the reminders list.
